You may have noticed that your energy bill has gone up – in some cases WAY up in the San Diego area recently. So what is the deal and what can you do about it?
Utility companies are complex, as are their billing practices. One reason costs have gone up is the 10.6% increase granted by the Public Utility Commission (PUC). This added 2-3 cents per kWh onto your bill. But wait – energy consumption is only 48% of your bill. The rest is distribution (36%), transmission (10%), and 6% public programs and other. You also have demand fees to consider, which can be a large percentage of cost on your monthly bill. Additionally businesses were recently automatically switched to the Whenergy pricing plan – so what is Whenergy? The simple version is you are charged based on when you use your energy (think on peak, semi peak and off peak pricing – supply and demand). Depending on your business this may or may not be to your advantage.
Both business and residential customers have choices available to them for pricing plans, but it is critical for you to understand the choices to make the best decision. Understanding how you use utilities is essential to understanding how to reduce your bill. The energy professionals at Davis Consulting California are here to help!
