Educating our youth and members of our community is an important responsibility for us as professionals. We have had quite a few opportunities to do this in the first half of 2016, including Farm Day at Lakeside Middle School, Green Apple Day of Service at St. Rita’s School, and Solana Center Infield Farm at the San Diego County Fair.
At Davis Consulting California we had our first composting education and worm sort day at our headquarters in Alpine. We had some enthusiastic participation in sorting the “wiggly worms” from their compost, and went through some do’s and don’ts of backyard composting. We started a new bin, and reviewed the interesting bug helpers and critters that live in our compost bins. (At the moment we have some frogs in residence as well as grubs, worms, and a few other common bugs.) Our attendees seemed to enjoy it and got to take some compost home for their garden.
We hope that everyone is having a fun summer and we look forward to seeing you at the next Green Apple Day of Service in September as well as the SDGBC Fall Conference!
